Non-Surgical Low Back Pain Solutions in New Jersey

Chronic low back conditions can be problematic for patients who are suffering and not responding to most conservative treatment options for disc, nerve irritation and inflammation.  When patients fail to respond to chiropractic and physical therapy, nerve blocks that help control pain and swelling may be the next best option. Today we will discuss what these treatments consist of and how they can help you get better, faster!.

In our spines there are various structures that are prone to pain and irritation. The most common areas prone to this pain and irritation are the intervertebral discs, and the surrounding nerve roots. An epidural works to reduce symptomatic pain associated with injury to these structures by lowering pain and reducing inflammation. Controlling pain and inflammation, will allow more conservative treatment options such as chiropractic and physical therapy to make greater gains.  The epidural space  is located between the spinal cord and something called the dural space. Using guided imaging known as fluoroscopy the medication is delivered accurately and efficiently to the area involved. You are usually able to resume chiropractic care and physical therapy shortly following an epidural, which is encouraged at Performance Ortho, to help stabilize and rehabilitate the lumbar spine. Typically when combined with conservative treatment options, epidurals allow for a return to a pain free lifestyle.

What does a lumbar epidural consist of?

Non-surgical nerve blocks are designed to help conditions associated with lumbar spine nerve pain and inflammation. At Performance Ortho, epidurals are done with a local anesthetic, under computer guided imaging. The use of computer guided imaging ensures accurate delivery of the medication which will make it much more effective. There is very little discomfort during the procedure. If you find that you are suffering from chronic low back pain, and you are a looking for non-surgical solutions to your orthopedic problems in one location, we can help!

Post procedure involvement

After the procedure is completed you will relax in our recovery room for a short period of time where our Registered Nurse will monitor you. Normally, you resume chiropractic care and physically therapy within 24 hours of the procedure, which is encouraged, to further help, rehabilitate and strengthen your spine. Combining interventional pain management with conservative options allows for a much more effective outcome.
