Arthritis Treatment

What is Arthritis?

At Performance Ortho, we treat arthritis pain with an integrated approach. We offer a combination of pain management procedures, physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic manipulation in the treatment of arthritis conditions. Our treatments help reduce pain in patients and help them live normally.

To help you understand arthritis a little better, you should know that it’s a painful inflammation and stiffness of the joints. The term in itself covers more than 100 medical conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and gout — just to name the most common types. Osteoarthritis is the result of cartilage covering the end of bones, gradually wearing away. Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the immune system attacks the body’s tissues. And, gout occurs when too much uric acid builds up in the body.

Arthritis affects more than 50 million Americans1 and is common among more women than men2.  By 2030, 67 million adults are expected to suffer with arthritis3. There are no real ways to prevent arthritis. It’s not curable, but it is treatable through a variety or approaches.  Your doctor can help you determine which is best for you.

Arthritis stiffens joints which causes pain in individuals. Physical therapists can teach patients how to reduce the amount of strain they put on their joints. They can then provide them with exercises to help preserve their joints. Physical therapy is often effective at providing relief to patients because it helps get the stiffness out of their joints.

Acupuncture helps strengthen and remove blocks to energy flow. An acupuncturist will place small needles on a patient’s body to help treat pain caused by arthritis. Treatment helps regulate the body’s nervous system. As with physical therapy, a unique treatment is determined based on each patient’s symptoms.

As part of arthritis treatment, we perform chiropractic manipulations on patients who are candidates for this type of treatment. Through chiropractic manipulations, we help the body heal itself by correcting imbalances and subluxations. Our chiropractors also help patients increase their flexibility and muscle tone and strength, which ultimately reduces pain caused by arthritis.
